Our mission is to raise up a generation that will live totally abandoned to Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 3:15 (New Posts on Mondays)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009599454072812104noreply@blogger.comBlogger45125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-303013275019052997.post-20366576718573447502015-06-01T15:44:00.000-05:002015-06-01T15:44:00.117-05:00Subscribe to my new website!Subscribe by email to my new website to get notifications on article postings! I'm excited to announce my new website is (finally) up and running! Go check it out! allornothingblog.comAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009599454072812104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-303013275019052997.post-61029269553037315212014-04-17T09:26:00.000-05:002014-04-17T09:26:11.786-05:00ImmersionSorry we have not posted anything for awhile. We are working on a new website that 'Know What You Believe' will be changing into. We are sensing that God is moving in a bit of a different direction and has some new plans for what he wants the website to be/do. 'Know What You Believe' is going to become a website called 'Immersion' (we will have a new web address which we will notify you of soon). The vision that God has given us for "Immersion' is that it will be a movement that leads to revival in THIS GENERATION. A movement that will exhort and equip this generation to live out Biblical Christianity and to walk in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. The vision is not too far off from what we are already doing at 'Know What You Believe,' but we feel that God is calling us to a totally new start. We will be giving you more information as we progress. We hope you will continue to read our articles and listen to our podcasts when transfer over to this new website! Although 'Immersion' will have a mission of generating revival in our generation, it will still always be committed to equipping people to be dedicated solely to one man, Jesus Christ.
The acronym YOLO (you only live
once) is used all over social media. We use it in a joking way most of the
time, but if you really stop to think about it, this is a very sobering
statement. “YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!” We have got one life. One opportunity. One
shot at not wasting our lives.

Nobody wants to come to the end of
their life and say, “I wasted it.” We all want our lives to count for
something. We want to live a meaningful
life, not a meaningless one. So what,
then, qualifies a life as meaningful? What are the criteria for a life well
lived; a life not wasted?

Well, according to the world, the
goal in life is to succeed at a career, have a family, retire with enough money
to live comfortably, and maybe go a vacation now and then. As soon as someone
graduates high school they begin to climb the ladder of “success.” Despite what
the world tells us, this is not a life well lived, this is a life wasted.

If we look at people who the Bible
says were successful, we see people who didn’t know where their next meal was
going to come from. We see people who were thrown in prison, killed, and
persecuted for living for Christ. Christ himself never had money. The Word says
that “the Son of Man had no place to lay his head.” He didn’t even know where
he was going to sleep every night. The world will tell you that unless you gain
wealth and prestige, you will never live a meaningful life, but that is not
what makes a great life.

John Piper says, “The opposite of wasting your life is living
life by a single God-exalting, soul-satisfying passion.” When we look for
satisfaction in anything but Christ, we waste our lives.

So let’s go back to YOLO. You only
live once. We have one life. One chance to live totally abandoned to Christ for
the glory of God. What do you find your satisfaction in? What do you feed on? John
Piper says in his book Don’t Waste Your
Life, “What you love determines what you feel shame about. If you love for
men to make much of you, you will feel shame when they don’t. But if you love
for men to make much of Christ, then you will feel shame if he is belittled on
your account.”

Everyday people get up, go to work,
come home, watch TV, and go to bed. The next day is no different. Their
everyday is squandered away as they live to make much of themselves. Athletes
work to make much of their ability. Businessmen live to make much of themselves
through their wealth. This is the black hole that this generation, and every
generation to come, is headed for when we seek our own greatness. When we come
to the realization that “To know Christ and to make him known” is the greatest
endeavor that anyone could ever embark upon, we live a life of purpose.

Success
is not marked by the number of zeros on your paycheck, or the records you
break, or even the good things that you do. When we stand before God, the only
things that will last are the things that we did for Christ and his glory.

So
as you read this, don’t be satisfied with the low aim of making much of
yourself, but stir up the passion to make much of the only one who is worthy of
praise, Jesus Christ. You only live once; don’t waste it.

Although this is my personal experience with youth in my own group, I do not believe it would be too bold to suggest that this situation exists in youth groups and schools everywhere. I believe that youth are constantly being challenged in their schools, not just by their peers, but also by their teachers. Youth are finding themselves, out-numbered and ill-equipped to deal with questions that not only challenge their faith, but their ethical beliefs as well. With the rise of the new-atheist movement, Christians have been painted in a negative limelight as hateful towards peoples like, Homosexuals and Pro-choice abortionists. Youth have felt the pressure of this and feel that calling themselves Christians can single them out as “haters” so to speak, which becomes particularly daunting in a school full of “accepting” people.<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 7.5pt; line-height: 11.5px;">

This all may seem very sad and discouraging to know, but I say with enthusiasm, there is hope! Youth are hungry for answers, much more than we would begin to think. In fact, the very idea that there is information out there that exists to support the existence of God, seems surprising to many of them. Many of my own youth have responded positively when informed that their faith is reasonable, and it leaves them wanting more. Not only that, but it appears to excite them and boost their confidence when talking about their faith with others. Apologetics has become more and more relevant over the years, and is now becoming necessary. The amount of opposition that Christians face, especially in High School and University, is ever increasing; to the point where it is more than just a good idea to educate individuals on why they believe what they believe. This is not to suggest that Apologetics is the alpha and omega of all ministry; but rather, it is a necessary part of what Jesus commands us to do that we all too often seem to overlook when reading Mark 12:30 as it says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul<span style="border: 1pt none windowtext; color: #666666; font-family: "inherit","serif"; font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 20.700000762939453px; padding: 0in;"> and with all your mind<span style="border: 1pt none windowtext; color: #666666; font-family: "inherit","serif"; font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 20.700000762939453px; padding: 0in;"> and with all your strength” (my own emphasis).<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 7.5pt; line-height: 11.5px;">

I encourage everyone to prayerfully consider equipping young believers with the ability to defend their faith. It can be done in a number of different ways whether you integrate it into teaching on a youth night, or perhaps just in a casual conversation that arises while spending time with them. I remember one youth, who was teetering on the fence with his faith, told me that it was a conversation he had with me on the bus about reasonable faith that gave him that little extra nudge he needed. Perhaps there are youth in our groups right now that just need that extra nudge, or maybe just need that extra encouragement. No matter the instance, I hope you will partner with me in a journey to better equip a generation to firmly stand for what they believe! <span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 7.5pt; line-height: 11.5px;">

The ‘All Or Nothing’ message, at its root, begins with an
undivided heart. When our worship is not solely devoted to God, we fall into
idolatry and lose our ultimate potential. God desires a generation that has an undivided
heart; a generation that will give its all… or nothing at all.

We cannot serve two masters. It’s not simply that we should not serve two masters, but that we cannot. Luke 16:13 says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you
will hate one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise
the other.” When God is not primary, the other things vying for our attention
get our allegiance. No one is capable of serving God and serving their own
desires; it’s either God or us. Once we choose to make God secondary, God
becomes distasteful to us. Before we know it, we don’t want to be around God
and we don’t want to talk about Him. Timothy Keller describes idolatry by
saying, “When we build our lives on anything but God, that thing – though a
good thing – becomes an enslaving addiction, something we have to have in order
to be happy.” We were
created to worship. As Pastor Matt Chandler states, “We want to worship
something. Worship is an innate response. We are wired for it by God himself.”
But what we give our worship to is the key.

What exactly is worship? According to Matt Chandler, “Worship
is the attribution of ultimate worth to something.” Chandler continues, “When
this ultimate worth is attributed to anyone or anything other than the one,
true triune God of the universe, it is idolatry.” The Bible says that anything
we place above God is an idol. If our sports teams, our friends, music, or
anything else becomes more important to us than Jesus Christ, it becomes an
idol. The Bible says that King David was a man after God’s own heart. One of
the main reasons that this was said about him was because of his burning desire
for an undivided heart. David wrote in Psalms 86:11, “Teach me your way, Lord,
that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may
fear your name.” Again, in Psalms 51, after David had sinned against God, he
cries out for a heart that is purely devoted to Him when he says, “Create in me
a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” King David was a
man after the heart of God, and that is the type of generation that God wants.
He is not looking for perfect people, but people with an undivided heart.

Many times we begin to think, “I have been faithful to God
for a long time, I just want to do what I want for a little bit,” but
faithfulness doesn’t work like that. It’s is not about the length of your
faithfulness, it’s about the day by day. If a couple had been married for fifty
years, and the husband had never looked at, thought about, or even entertained
a thought about another woman, it would never make it okay for him to begin to
flirt with another woman simply because he had been faithful for fifty years.
When we give our lives to Christ, we put on a wedding ring; we make a commitment
of faithfulness and fidelity. God is looking for daily devoted disciples. He is
looking for a generation that will give Him their undivided allegiance,
passion, and love day by day.

A divided heart equals a divided potential. Unless we give
God everything we are capable of, we will never reach the potential that God
intended for our lives. The catch to this statement is that this is impossible…..on
our own. We are not capable of giving all that God requires. Thankfully, God
doesn’t ask us to do it alone. He provides the Holy Spirit and His all sufficient
grace to help us do what we can’t do on our own. When we surrender he gives us
the strength for whatever he calls us to do. As Guillermo Maldonado says, “The
only ability God requires is availability.” Unless we surrender everything to
Christ, we will never reach the peak of what God has created us to be and do.

A generation that is consumed with the things of the world
will never see a great move of God. The generation that will see revival is the
generation that is dedicated exclusively to Jesus Christ. God doesn’t ask for
perfect people, he gave us a perfect Savior. God asks for a people willing to
follow him no matter the cost. He asks for people who give Him their undivided
heart. But, we cannot accomplish the task in our own strength; thankfully, God
doesn’t ask us to. God provides the grace as we provide the faith. An undivided
heart starts with the day by day; it starts with daily devotion to Christ. God
is calling this generation to give our all, starting with our hearts.

This is our first ever release of our top ten suggestions of books to read in the new year. We have compiled ten books that cover a variety of different subjects from apologetics to prayer. These are listed in no particular order, but are all of great importance. We hope to continue this trend every year, providing good material for a generation who wants to know the Word and Jesus Christ at a deeper level.

Description: "Faith in God is rising, yet so is skepticism. The evidence for the existence of God must be grasped and clearly articulated to answer this challenge, "says author Rice Broocks. "The success of the atheistic agenda is mostly due to the fact that the theistic responses to atheists' claims have not been widely circulated." God's Not Dead guides seekers and reminds believers that: real faith is not blind -- it is based on evidence, life is no accident -- there is meaning and purpose in the universe, good and evil are no illusions, and the God who exists has revealed Himself in history through Jesus Christ. Drawing from the areas of philosophy, science, history, and theology, we can form persuasive arguments for God's existence and His presence in our lives. This book equips us with the tools, providing clear, easy-to-follow explanations of the key concepts and controversies. God's Not Dead is apologetics for the twenty-first century.

Description: In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple -- then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.

Description: Is it possible for people to say they believe in Jesus but not truly be born again? Is it possible for people to claim they have accepted Christ into their hearts yet not actually be Christians? Not only is it possible, but according to Pastor David Platt, it's also highly probable. The author of the bestselling book Radical is convinced that many people

in our churches today are misled as to what it truly means to be a follower of Christ. Western culture has drained the lifeblood out of Christianity and replaced it with a watered-down version of the gospel that is so palatable it isn't even real anymore. "Follow me," Jesus calls. Two simple words that change everything. You will never be bored. You will always have purpose. You will never lack joy. But it will cost you. This call is not an invitation to pray a prayer. It is a summons to lose your life.
To help you grasp the full revelation of God's supernatural power, Apostle Maldonado shares biblically based insights and tremendous testimonies to show you how to: experience God's anointing to be more effective in ministry, understand and operate in the supernatural, minister healing to the sick, hear the voice of God, protect yourself from deception, and develop a faith for the miraculous.

Description: A growing movement of young people is rebelling against the low expectations of today's culture by choosing to "do hard things" for the glory of God. And Alex and Brett Harris are leading the charge. Do Hard Things is the Harris twins' revolutionary message in its purest and most compelling form, giving readers a tangible glimpse of what is possible for teens who actively resist cultural lies that limit their potential. Combating the idea of adolescence as a vacation from responsibility, the authors weave together biblical insights, history, and modern examples to redefine the teen years as the launching pad of life. Then they map out five powerful ways teens can respond for personal and social change.

Description: It only takes one courageous life to change the world.......what about you! An inspiring number of biographical accounts from some of history's greatest missionaries like David Livingstone who answered God's challenge to impact the world. Taking the message of Christ and salvation to the unexplored lands of those who had never heard the truth, he was among the faithful men and women who risked death, disease and poverty so others might know and receive Jesus as Savior. These examples remind Christians that greatness and success is to love God and love others selflessly like He has done for us. Here is a bold presentation of how faith, obedience, and love conquered isolation and fear. The accounts of these 23 obedient servants to Christ exemplify a decision to live for God and not ourselves.

Description: Why does God allow suffering in the world? How could a loving God send people to Hell? Why isn't Christianity more inclusive? How can one religion be "right" and the others "wrong"? Why have so many wars been fought in the name of God? These are just a few of the questions and doubts even ardent believers wrestle with today. As the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, Timothy Keller has compiled a list of the most frequently voiced "doubts" skeptics bring to his church. And in The Reason for God, he single-handedly dismantles each of them. Keller uses literature, philosophy, real-life conversations, and reasoning to explain how faith in a Christian God is a soundly rational belief, held by thoughtful people of intellectual integrity with a deep compassion for those who truly want to know the truth. Writing for atheists, agnostics, and skeptics, Keller also provides an intelligent platform on which true believers can stand their ground when bombarded by the backlash to religion created by the Age of Skepticism. The Reason for God challenges such ideology at its core and points to the true path and purpose of Christianity.

Description: In Honor's Reward, bestselling author John Bevere unveils the the power and truth of an often-overlooked principle -- the spiritual law of honor. If you understand the vital role of this virtue, you will attract blessing both now and for eternity. In characteristic fashion, John Bevere digs deep into Scripture to show that how you value, respect, and treat others determines your rewards. He begins with God's promise: "Those who honor me I will honor." This insightful book teaches you how to extend honor to your Creator, family members, authorities, and those who fill your world. John demonstrates how popular culture fights against the practice of honoring parents, leaders, and children as well as society's resistance to authority and the consequences of that disobedience.

The Bible says that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Well, what is sin? Sin is anything that is stands contrary to or falls short of
God's perfect character and will. Whether it's lying, stealing, cheating, lust, or whatever it may be, we have all done one of those things at least once in our lives. Sin separates us from God. We were created to live in relationship with God, but we chose to disobey him. "But wait," you may say, "I'm a still a good person. I have never killed anyone or anything like that." That may be true, but no amount of good works, or lack of bad choices, can ever make you good enough to get to heaven. Picture this: you're standing in a burning building, the building has fifty foot high ceilings and every possible exit is blocked by roaring flames. There is no way out except up. Imagine, all of a sudden, a firefighter cuts a hole in the roof. There is no ladder or anything you can grab that can get you up there, the only option you have is to jump. Remember, these are fifty foot ceilings, there is no way you are ever going to be able to jump that high. The only way to get out is if someone offers you help from the outside... and that's exactly what God has done. You see, the only way to spend eternity with a perfect God is to be perfect. Even if you are a good person, try putting your record up against perfection; it's going to look pretty pitiful. We have all chosen to sin, the flames are closing in and nothing we can do will ever be able to save us. This is where Jesus comes in.

Deep down we all want justice to be done against evil... as long as it isn't our evil. If we see someone run a red light thorough an intersection and almost hit another car, we're praying to God there's a cop... but if by chance we are the ones who ran the red light, we're praying to God there isn't a cop. We want people to get what is due them. God is not only loving, but in order for him to be the perfect God that he is he must also be Righteous and Just. There must be justice, which literally means giving someone their due; either what they're due for righteousness or sin. The Bible says that "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). When someone does something wrong, either the person who committed the crime is punished, or the victim of the crime chooses not to press charges and chooses to take the pain and loss of the crime upon themselves. If someone steals something, they are either caught and punished, or the person who was the victim of the theft takes the loss. Either someone gets punished, or the victim takes the loss. We have all committed a crime against God, and not just one, but multiple crimes. Our greatest crime against God is rebellion against His full reign in our lives. As our Creator, He has full right to reign in the lives of His creations. The day, the moment we say "my way" is the day treason against our perfect Creator puts us at enmity with Him. God has every right to punish us for the crimes we chose to commit, we deserve it. That would be justice. We are standing in the burning building, and we put ourselves there, it was our fault. But imagine that as you are standing among the flames, a life line is thrown to you. The only way for you to get out is for someone else to come down to you. Imagine the fire fighter lowers himself down on a rope and ties you in. Not only does he come down to you, but there is only time for one of you to get out. Someone has to die, and it's either us, the ones who are trapped by the flames because of our own bad decisions, or the one who has done nothing wrong. This is what Christ did for us. Since the only one who is capable of being perfect is God, He came down to us and became a man. He lived the perfect life that we were meant to live, but not only that, He died the death we should have died in our place. The payment for our sins that we deserve was placed on Jesus Christ. He was placed on a cross and the agony, punishment, and righteous wrath that we deserve was placed on him. But that's not the end of the story.

Christ not only paid our sin, but he conquered death. Three days after he was crucified, he burst forth from the tomb, proving that he truly was who he said he was... the Son of God. He conquered death so that those who trust in his name no longer have to fear death, but can look forward to spending eternity with God. Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." John 3:16 also says, "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, our imperfect, blemished record is replaced by Christ's perfect one. Our sins are washed away and we are made clean in the sight of God. When God looks at us he no longer sees our sin and our imperfection, but he sees the perfection and sinless record of Christ.

We have all sinned. We have all chosen to disobey God and deserve the consequences of our actions. Instead of God punishing us, he sent his son Jesus to take the punishment and shame we deserve. The sins of the world were placed on him, but he didn't stay dead. Jesus Christ conquered the grave, proving he is the Son of God, and he offers salvation to anyone who will turn from their sin, place their trust in him, and commit their life to his purpose and plan. Jesus Christ is calling us to repentance. Repentance is not simply acknowledging our sin, but turning from it. Repentance involves a 180 degree turn. We choose to abandon our own desires and fully follow Christ. Christ calls us to offer up our lives, and not just part of it, but all. We are called to abandon ourselves and turn to Christ. That is repentance. We don't follow and obey Christ because we firstly loved him, but because he first loved us and laid down his life for us. Because Christ gave himself as the substitute for our sins, doing for us what we couldn't do for ourselves, he is worthy of every ounce of passion, talent and energy that we have.

"Humanity admires feats of heroism, sacrifice, love, and
honor. We revere people who stand up with fervor and fight for justice, truth, and
who forgo their own personal gain for the benefit of others. We are moved by
acts of courage and valor, and by the people who accomplish them. When someone inspiringly
portrays these acts in a film, we award them with Academy Awards and Golden
Globes. The stories that we cheer on, laugh with, and cherish are the ones of
great love, great courage, or great sacrifice. The stories of people who laid
down their life for another or who go to great lengths for love. These are the
ideals that humanity identifies with, and in which we search for our purpose in
life. Out of all of the stories, legends, and tales, there is one true account
of love, sacrifice, courage, and hope that stands above all the rest. The story
of Jesus Christ is the greatest account of courage, the utmost description of
sacrifice, and the deepest love story ever told…"

God is calling this generation to its true purpose in Christ. This is an appeal for this generation to live up to that purpose and become what it was destined to be. “All or nothing” is a battle cry; a cry to rally and stir up a generation that will give God our all or nothing at all. A generation that does not make Christ simply a part of our lives, but a generation that puts Christ at the center of everything we do.

We live in a generation where apathy is the norm, not the exception. We are known for our addiction to video games, lack of interest, and irresponsibility. Researchers suggest that this is the most biblically illiterate generation in history! It’s time to change that. When Jesus tells us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength” this is not a suggestion but a command. So let’s be the generation of David’s, the generation of
Joshua’s and Caleb’s; the ones who boldly take a stand for the one true God.

We live in a time when the most we are called to give God is a few hours a week for youth group and maybe a couple more on Sundays. We say, “Here God, take this part of me, but I’m going to keep the rest.” We compromise. Giving God everything isn’t even on the radar. Sports, media, and friendships fill up our time and deplete our physical energy when it should be devoted to God. Not that sports, friends, and Facebook are bad in and of themselves, but when we put them in a place above God it becomes idolatry. “When we build our lives on anything but God, that thing – though a good thing – becomes an enslaving addiction, something we have to have in order to be happy” says pastor and author Timothy Keller.

I love the story of King Josiah. Josiah became king of Judah at eight years old and was one of the best kings that nation ever had. Why? Because he went throughout the nation and tore down the idols and turned his people back to the one true God. He was sold out for God. For him, it was all or nothing.

Idols can be the love of money or of fame, or maybe it’s acceptance we are lusting after. It could be our sports teams, music, or whatever it is that we are passionate about. It can be anything in which we spend our time trying to succeed, but our generation has a warped view of success. We spend so much time trying to gain popularity or strive to excel in things that have no ultimate impact. Francis Chan says, “Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.”

Even as I am writing this I’m thinking to myself, “Do we really have to give God everything?” But the Bible says in Revelation 3:16, “So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth. I wish you were either one or the other!” God would rather us be totally indifferent towards Him than halfheartedly for Him. We are either in or out, hot or cold, against Him or for Him. There is no middle ground with God. You may be asking the same question that I am right now, “Is it worth it.” Well let’s take a look at who we would be giving our all for.

Jesus Christ was beaten to the point where he was barely even recognizable as human. He was nailed to a cross and the punishment and shame for our sins were thrust upon his soul. The King of kings willingly left the perfection of heaven and became a man; the only one who is truly worthy to be served “came to serve, not to be served.” He was beaten, bruised, and broken. His skin was torn to pieces by whips composed of broken pieces glass and bone that shredded him to pieces. All of this he bore willingly, so that the people who placed him on that cross could be forgiven. If Christ did all of this for us – taking what we deserved – isn’t he worth every ounce of passion, talent, and energy that we have?! The very least Christ deserves is the very best we can give him.

One day, we will all have to stand before God and give an account of our lives. Nancy Guthrie writes about this day in her book, The One Year Book of Discovering Jesus In The Old Testament, when she says that many of us will stand before the throne and “The judge will be the One [we] claimed to love but did not truly love. He will be the One that [we] mocked or merely dismissed as unnecessary or unworthy.” (emphasis mine) We don’t give God our all because we either view giving God everything as unnecessary or view God unworthy of our all. We don’t think giving God our everything is worth it.

I don’t say this to be harsh. I don’t say this to be condescending. This article is as much to myself as to anyone else. I say all of this because I believe our generation is missing out. Dietrich Bonheoffer was a man who was martyred standing for Christ against the Nazi regimes. He says in his book, The Cost of Discipleship, “When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.” Jesus says to us “take up your cross and follow me” (Luke 9:23). That doesn’t sound very halfhearted. The words of the young missionary and martyr, Jim Elliot, ring loud and clear when he says, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” Our generation tries to compromise what Jesus has commanded us to do, or maybe it’s that we are not willing to compromise. We are not willing to compromise our reputation or friendships in order to give God everything.

We hear it so often that God has a plan for us beyond any of our wildest dreams, but do we really believe it? We have been given a purpose, and the only way to live up to and fulfill that purpose is to give God everything we have. Let’s take those idols that are impeding God’s power in our lives and not only tear them down, but turn them around. We are no longer athletes; we are ambassadors for Christ disguised as athletes. We are no longer musicians, but ambassadors for Christ disguised as musicians. Let’s use those things that used to take our passion, time, and effort and use them as methods to share the gospel of Christ’s love and power in the lives of the hundreds of people that we come in contact with everyday.

God cannot use people who are only partially devoted to him. Jesus Christ changed the world with twelve men who were willing to give everything they had – including their lives – for his purpose and plan. Guillermo Maldonado says in his book How to Walk In the Supernatural Power of God, “The only ability God requires is availability.” I don’t know about you, but I want to stand before Christ one day and have him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Let’s be the generation that says, “God, I will give you my all because you are worthy of it.” The generation that says, “It’s all or nothing.”

Points for consideration:

Is Christ at the center of everything we do?

What are the things that are taking the place of God in our lives?

Our greatest fear shouldn’t be of failure but of succeeding in things that don’t really matter.

Remember who we are giving our all for.

The very least Christ deserves is the very best we can give him.

If God is not getting everything we have, we either view him as unnecessary or unworthy.

God would rather us be totally indifferent towards Him than halfheartedly for Him.

The only ability God requires is availability.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” — Hebrews 12:1-3

"GO"

Jesus Christ commands us to "GO." He commands us to "go into all the world and preach the good news" (gospel). Sharing our faith can be intimidating, but this is not a suggestion, it's a command. God has called us all to reach the lost. The first step is to simply start a conversation. When we are obedient to what God commands us to do, he will help us with the rest. It doesn't matter if you have been saved for years or you just came to Christ today, we can all share the gospel. Maybe you just don't know where to start. If that is the case, the videos included below are extremely helpful in sharing the gospel. Even if you do know where to start, these videos will be very helpful. There are hundreds of people we come in contact with everyday who are headed for an eternity separated from God, we have been given the responsibility and command of reaching them. So let's get started, and always keep in mind that we are never on our own, God is with us.

Who

A simple and effective way to gain a heart to reach the lost is to make a list of all of the people you come in contact with regularly that need to hear the gospel. Whether it's your friends at school, family members, or the person who bags your groceries, write down the names of those people and pray for them on a daily basis. God will give you a heart to see them come to Christ and will begin to soften their hearts towards the gospel.

How

Below are some videos and resources that are extremely helpful in sharing the gospel. Whether you are someone who shares their faith all the time, or someone who has never done it before, these videos will help you tremendously.

The story of Christ’s birth is told a thousand times over at
this time of year. The story of Mary and Joseph and the Three Wise Men, of the
journey to Bethlehem only for there to be no room in the inn, and of the Savior
of the world found lying in a manger. We reenact it in our Christmas plays and
read the story on Christmas Day, but interwoven in this story are huge
prophetic and historical implications. We see a poor virgin from Nazareth
becoming betrothed to a lowly carpenter named Joseph. We see Caesar Augustus
announcing a decree that requires Mary and Joseph to travel to Bethlehem. But
what importance, if any, do all of these facts carry?

The coming of the Messiah was no
small thing in the Jewish world. This was an event greatly hoped for and
anticipated. They longed for the day when the Savior would come and free them
of their bondage and establish his everlasting Kingdom. The Messianic
prophecies were well known by all and included predictions of his lineage, time
of birth, events surrounding his birth, as well as many events after his birth.

The Messiah was prophesied to be a
descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Gen. 12:3, Gen. 17:19, Num. 24:17). He
was to come from the tribe of Judah and would be an heir to the throne of David
(Gen. 49:10, Isaiah 9:7). In Matthew 1:1-16, the lineage of Jesus is
painstakingly laid out to demonstrate the authenticity of his ancestry. He came
from the line of Abraham, who was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of
Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah, and King David came from the tribe of Judah.
Christ’s lineage is traced all the way down from David to Joseph, the husband
of Mary.

The orchestration of God in the
events of history becomes very evident when you consider the next few
prophesies.
Christ was predicted to be born of a virgin, which in and of itself
is impossible without God’s divine intervention. This was fulfilled in the virgin
Mary. The birthplace of the Messiah was known to be Bethlehem because of the
prophecy in Micah 5:2. God’s intervention in the history of the world is witnessed
when Caesar Augustus decreed a census which required Joseph to return to
Bethlehem because he was from the line of David. This fact alone is incredible
because it required Mary and Joseph to journey where they would not have
normally travelled in order for this prophecy to be fulfilled.

As far as events surrounding Christ’s
birth, it was prophesied that there would be a slaughter of children in
Jeremiah 31:15. This was fulfilled when King Herod “sent forth to put to death
all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its districts, from two
years old and under, according to the time which had been given by the wise men”
(Matt:2:16-18). Joseph was warned in a dream to flee to Egypt to avoid the
wrath of King Herod. This event only served to fulfill the prophecy that the
Messiah would be called out of Egypt (Hosea 11:1).

Not only does the Bible predict the
Messiah’s lineage and the events surrounding his birth, but the prophet Daniel also
predicts the time frame in which the Messiah would live, which was fulfilled by
Jesus Christ (Daniel 9:25).

By this point it is evident to see
that the Christmas story is not some fable or that Jesus’ claim to be the
Messiah was overplayed. His claim to be the Son of God is backed not only by
his resurrection from the dead, but also by the myriad of evidences presented
by his fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies. The virgin birth is the main
miracle focused on in the Christmas story, but this birth was surrounded by
miracle after miracle of God’s orchestration in history.

Among the most prominent characters in
the Christmas story are the Three Wise Men. The Wise Men said that they
followed a star in the east which led them to the Messiah. Many speculations
have been made as to what this “star” was. Recent research done by theoretical astrophysicist
Grant Matthews backs the theory that it was an alignment of different heavenly
bodies. The most likely scenario is the alignment of Jupiter, the moon, and
Saturn in the constellation Aries, and the alignment of Venus and Mars in a nearby
constellation on April 17, 6 B.C. This event not only has the most supporting
evidence, but also holds large prophetic implications.

The Wise Men were believed to be
Zoroastrian astrologers, which, because of the planetary alignment in the constellation
Aries, would have caused them to distinguish this as a sign that an influential
leader was born. Not only did this predict the birth of a great leader, but it
also would have meant that this leader would die at an appointed time, which is
very important because of Jesus’ later death on the Cross.

I was curious as to what the actual percentage would be of
Jesus fulfilling all of the prophecies about himself that he did. In his book Science
Speaks, Peter W. Stoner calculated the percentage
of Christ fulfilling all of the prophecies concerning not only his birth, but
his entire life. Stoner calculated the number to be: 1 in 1.5 x 10239. Let me put this in perspective,
1 in 1.5 x 106 would be a 1 in 1,500,000 chance. Imagine then, the
chance of 1 in 1.5 x 10239. It is an unthinkably small number and an
infinitesimally small chance, but Christ fulfilled that chance.

The
Christmas story is read by families across the globe at this time of year and it
is the focus of many sermons that are given during this season, but do we only
see this as a story, or do we see it for what it really is: overwhelming evidence
of God’s intervention in history and confirmation of Christ’s claims to be the
Son of God. Peter W. Stoner says, “Any man
who rejects Christ as the Son of God is rejecting a fact proved perhaps more
absolutely than any other fact in the world.”As
we hear the story of Christ being born in a manger and the journey of the Wise
Men, this is no longer a tale, but a faith building testimony to the deity of
Christ. As we see the King of kings entering the world as a helpless baby, we
see God intervening in the events of history in order to redeem the world to
himself.

The article is an appeal for this generation to live up to its destiny in Christ and to give God our everything. "All or nothing" is the battle cry of a generation of world changers, a generation that will take a stand for Christ. A generation that won't compromise, won't be spectators, and will place Christ at the center of everything we do.
